MANDATE

To regulate, coordinate and monitor all sand mining / dredging activities in Lagos state with a view to ensuring a safe environment and sustainable mining of the resources using global best practices.

 

The Ministry implements the Lagos state sand dealing law and sensitizes stakeholders on the position of the

state as regards the mineral and mining sector of the state. This includes investments, mineral exploitation guidelines, fees payable to the state, compliance / enforcement of stipulated rules and standard.


FUNCTIONS

  • Encourage and regulate safe sand mining activities in the state through enforcement of mining laws.
  • Promote the development and exploration of solid minerals in the state.
  • Liaise with relevant Government agencies and Miners to assess and monitor the impact of mining activities on the environment.
  • Issuance of operational Consent to miners to explore solid minerals in the state. (Laterite, sharp sand, filling sand etc.).
  • Monitor the haulage of solid minerals (including granite, marble, gravel etc.)
  • Geochemical/geophysical analysis of river sediment in dredging area of Lagos State.



The Dredging Unit

The Dredging Unit of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is saddled with the responsibility of promoting sustainable sea dredging activities in Lagos State. The Dredging and Monitoring Unit is responsible for monitoring, coordinating, and regulating dredging activities in the state to ensure revenue generation with minimal environmental degradation.
